Ingredients
Basic Tortilla Chips:
-
6 small corn tortillas (white or yellow)
-
1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
-
½ tsp salt (or to taste)
Optional Seasonings:
-
Garlic powder
-
Chili powder
-
Cumin
-
Paprika
-
Lime zest
-
Grated parmesan (for cheesy chips)
Instructions
Step 1: Cut the Tortillas
Stack the tortillas and cut into quarters or sixths to create chip-sized wedges.
You should have about 24 pieces from 6 tortillas.
Step 2: Oil and Season
Place the tortilla wedges in a bowl or on a tray.
Lightly brush or spray with oil on both sides.
Sprinkle with salt and any additional seasonings, then toss to coat evenly.
Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes.
Step 4: Air Fry in Batches
Arrange tortilla pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overlapping.
Air fry at 350°F for 5–7 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping halfway through.
Keep an eye on them in the last 2 minutes to prevent burning—they crisp up quickly!
Repeat with remaining chips if needed.
Step 5: Cool & Serve
Remove chips and let them cool on a wire rack or paper towel.
They’ll crisp up even more as they cool.
Serve immediately or store for later snacking.
Notes
- Use Corn Tortillas – They crisp better and have authentic flavor.
- Don’t Overcrowd – Cook in single layers for even crisping.
- Watch Closely – Chips can go from perfect to burnt in seconds.
- Season After Cooking – If adding cheese or lime zest, do it while chips are still warm.
- Get Creative – Make cinnamon sugar chips by tossing with sugar and cinnamon instead of salt.
