  • 16 ounces spaghetti pasta (white or whole wheat)
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ¾ cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 48 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Boil salted water in a large pot and cook spaghetti until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat; sauté onion for about 2 minutes. Add ground beef, cooking until browned; then drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; simmer for about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Mix in ¼ cup Parmesan cheese followed by cooked spaghetti until well coated.
  6. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish, top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; uncover and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is golden brown.
  8. Let sit for a few minutes before serving; garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
