Ingredients

Scale

For the Salad:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries (hulled and sliced)

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella (sliced or use mini mozzarella balls)

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes (halved)

  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves (whole or chiffonade)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Balsamic Reduction:

  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar

  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Arugula or spinach (for a fuller salad base)

  • Crushed pistachios or almonds (for a bit of crunch)

  • Avocado slices (for added creaminess)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Balsamic Reduction

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the balsamic vinegar and honey.

  2. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes.

  3. Stir occasionally until the mixture thickens into a syrupy consistency.

  4. Remove from heat and let it cool. It will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.

Step 2: Assemble the Salad

  1. Arrange mozzarella slices, strawberries, and cherry tomatoes in an alternating pattern on a platter.

  2. Tuck basil leaves between the layers or sprinkle on top.

  3. Season lightly with salt and black pepper.

Step 3: Drizzle and Serve

  1. Using a spoon, drizzle the cooled balsamic reduction generously over the salad.

  2. Serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 30 minutes before serving for a chilled effect.

Notes

Use Fresh Ingredients – Quality strawberries, basil, and mozzarella make all the difference.
Chill Before Serving – Cold ingredients enhance the refreshing effect.
Don’t Over-Reduce – The balsamic should coat a spoon but still be pourable.
Slice Evenly – Uniform slices make for a prettier and more balanced dish.
Balance the Sweetness – Taste your strawberries; if they’re very sweet, go easy on the honey.
