Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp baking powder

For the Peppermint Frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 ½ tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp peppermint extract

For the Topping:

  • ½ cup crushed candy canes

  • ½ cup white chocolate chips (optional for drizzling)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Extra crushed candy canes

  • Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

Step 2: Make the Brownie Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined.

Step 3: Bake the Brownies
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan.

Step 4: Make the Peppermint Frosting
In a bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and peppermint extract.
Beat until light and fluffy.

Step 5: Frost the Brownies
Spread the peppermint frosting evenly over the cooled brownies.

Step 6: Add the Candy Cane Topping
Sprinkle the crushed candy canes evenly over the frosting.
Optional: Melt the white chocolate chips and drizzle over the top for extra sweetness and a festive touch.

Step 7: Slice and Serve
Use a sharp knife to slice into squares.
Wipe the knife clean between cuts for neat edges.

Notes

Use Room Temperature Ingredients – Ensures smooth batter and frosting.
Don’t Overbake – Slightly underbaked brownies stay fudgy and rich.
Crush Candy Canes Finely – Larger pieces can make slicing harder.
Frost Only When Cool – Prevents the frosting from melting into the brownies.
Use a Serrated Knife – Makes slicing through the candy cane topping easier.
