- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- ½ cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil
- 1–1½ cups mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 large onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 teaspoon thyme (minced)
- 1 tablespoon garlic (minced)
- ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Creole seasoning
Instructions
- Season cube steaks with salt and pepper and lightly sprinkle with flour.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, beef broth, and water until smooth.
- In the same skillet, add butter or oil, then sauté mushrooms, onions, thyme, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Creole seasoning for about 6 minutes until tender.
- Pour the gravy mixture into the skillet with vegetables and bring to a boil before adding the steaks back in along with their drippings.
- Cover and reduce heat to low; let simmer for 8-10 minutes until thickened.
