Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices brioche or challah bread (1-inch thick)

  • 1 cup eggnog (non-alcoholic)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tbsp butter (for cooking)

Optional Toppings:

  • Maple syrup

  • Powdered sugar

  • Whipped cream

  • Sliced bananas or berries

  • Candied pecans

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Eggnog Custard

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggnog, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

  2. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish for easy dipping.

Step 2: Soak the Bread
3. Dip each slice of bread into the custard, soaking for about 20–30 seconds per side.
4. Let excess drip off and place on a plate while the pan heats.

Step 3: Cook the French Toast
5. Heat butter in a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
6. Once hot, add soaked bread slices (in batches if needed).
7. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and firm to the touch.

Step 4: Serve Hot
8. Plate immediately and top with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, or fruit.

Notes

Use Stale Bread – Slightly dry bread soaks up more custard without falling apart.
Use Thick-Cut Slices – Helps get that crispy outside and soft interior.
Don’t Over-Soak – Bread should be saturated but not soggy.
Wipe Pan Between Batches – Prevents burning from leftover butter and spices.
Keep Warm – Store cooked slices in a 200°F oven while cooking the rest.
