- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- ½ cup finely grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ cup fine dry breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ¼ cup finely diced yellow onion
- 3 large yellow onions (thinly sliced)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground chicken, beaten egg, parmesan cheese, parsley, kosher salt, black pepper, whole milk, breadcrumbs, garlic, and diced yellow onion. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into one-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and vegetable oil; add thinly sliced onions and cook until caramelized (15–20 minutes).
- Sprinkle flour over caramelized onions and stir for one minute; then add beef broth, seasoning with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Add baked meatballs to the skillet; gently coat with sauce. Top with mozzarella and Gruyere cheese. Cover and simmer until cheese is melted (about 5 minutes).
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
