Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) German chocolate or chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) evaporated milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions and pour into a greased 9×13-inch pan. Bake until done.
  2. Allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes before using a wooden spoon handle to poke holes throughout the surface.
  3. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine evaporated milk, butter, brown sugar, and egg yolks. Stir constantly until thickened (about 10–12 minutes). Remove from heat and mix in shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and vanilla extract.
  5. Spread the cooled coconut-pecan mixture over the cake and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.
