Ingredients
1 can (16 oz) refried beans
1 tbsp taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
1 cup guacamole (store-bought or homemade)
1 cup sour cream
½ cup mayonnaise (optional for creamier texture)
For the Toppings:
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup diced cherry tomatoes (red)
½ cup chopped red bell pepper
½ cup sliced black olives
¼ cup finely chopped red onion
½ cup blueberries (for the “blue” patriotic effect)
¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
Tortilla chips or veggies for serving
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Bean Layer
In a small bowl, mix the refried beans with taco seasoning until fully combined.
Spread the bean mixture evenly on the bottom of the serving dish.
Step 2: Add the Guacamole
Gently layer the guacamole on top of the beans. Use a spoon or offset spatula to spread it evenly.
Step 3: Make the Cream Layer
In another bowl, mix the sour cream and mayonnaise (if using) until smooth.
Spread this mixture gently over the guacamole layer.
Step 4: Add the Cheese
Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded cheddar cheese over the sour cream.
Step 5: Create the Patriotic Topping
Arrange diced cherry tomatoes and red bell peppers on one-third of the top to represent the red section.
Use a few lines of sour cream or shredded mozzarella for the “white stripes.”
Pile blueberries into a square in the top-left corner for the “stars” section.
Add olives and red onion over the remaining surface, along with chopped cilantro for extra flavor.
Step 6: Chill and Serve
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld and the layers firm up.
Serve cold with tortilla chips or fresh veggie sticks.
Notes
Use a Clear Dish – So the layers show through for visual appeal.
Spread Gently – Use a light hand to keep layers distinct and neat.
Chill Before Serving – Helps the dip set and enhances flavor.
Customize to Taste – Add corn, jalapeños, or use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
