  • ¼ cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups white whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  2. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm water, milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  3. Add salt, egg, and both flours; mix on low speed until combined. Gradually add butter while mixing.

  5. Shape the dough into a ball and divide it into 8 equal pieces; shape each into a bun.
  6. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rest for about 15 minutes while preheating the oven to 400°F.
  7. Brush tops of buns with an egg wash made from one egg and one tablespoon of milk.
  8. Bake for 13-15 minutes until golden brown.
