Instructions
Step 1: Prep & Cook the Potatoes
In a large skillet, heat 2 tbsp olive oil over medium heat.
Add diced potatoes, season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and tender.
Transfer to a plate and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Salisbury Steak Patties
In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix until just combined. Form into 4 oval patties.
Step 3: Sear the Patties
In the same skillet, add a drizzle of oil if needed.
Sear patties over medium heat for 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
Remove and set aside. (They’ll finish cooking in the gravy.)
Step 4: Make the Gravy
Add butter to the skillet, then sauté sliced onions and mushrooms for 4–5 minutes.
Sprinkle in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Add mustard if using.
Simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
Step 5: Combine & Simmer
Return steak patties to the skillet. Nestle cooked potatoes around them.
Cover and simmer for 10–12 minutes, until patties are cooked through and gravy is rich.
Taste and adjust seasoning.
Step 6: Garnish & Serve
Sprinkle with chopped parsley and a crack of black pepper.
Serve straight from the skillet for rustic charm!
Notes
Don’t Overwork the Meat – Keeps patties juicy and tender.
Sear for Flavor – Browning adds richness to the gravy.
Thin-Slice the Onions – Helps them melt into the sauce.
Use Gold Potatoes – They’re naturally creamy with crispy edges.
Thicken to Taste – Simmer longer if you like a thicker gravy.
