  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ⅓ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ onion, diced
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 garlic clove (finely minced)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into four oval patties about ¾ inch thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the onions and mushrooms until tender. Add butter and flour to make a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef stock and bring to a simmer.
  6. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer until cooked through, about 10 minutes.
