Ingredients

For the Donuts:
2 cups Bisquick baking mix
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
¼ cup milk (more if needed for dough consistency)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying

Optional Coatings & Glazes:
Cinnamon-sugar (½ cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon)
Powdered sugar for dusting
Chocolate glaze (½ cup chocolate chips + 1 tbsp butter, melted)
Vanilla glaze (1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp milk + ½ tsp vanilla)
Maple glaze (1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp maple syrup + 1 tbsp milk)


Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine Bisquick, sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla.

  2. Stir until a soft dough forms. If it’s too dry, add 1 tablespoon of milk at a time.

  3. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 2–3 times until smooth.

Step 2: Cut the Donuts

  1. Roll dough to about ½-inch thickness.

  2. Use a donut cutter or biscuit cutter + bottle cap to cut out rings.

  3. Re-roll scraps and repeat.

Step 3: Heat the Oil

  1. Pour 2–3 inches of oil into a deep skillet or Dutch oven.

  2. Heat over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

Step 4: Fry the Donuts

  1. Fry donuts in batches, 2–3 at a time, for about 1 minute per side or until golden brown.

  2. Flip carefully and don’t overcrowd the pan.

  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined rack.

  4. Fry donut holes for about 30 seconds per side.

Step 5: Coat or Glaze

  1. While still warm, dip donuts in cinnamon-sugar or dust with powdered sugar.

  2. If glazing, let cool slightly, then dip the tops into your glaze of choice.

  3. Place on a rack to set for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Don’t Overmix – Mix until just combined to keep donuts tender.
Use a Thermometer – Keep oil between 350–365°F for even browning.
Flip Gently – Use tongs or a slotted spoon to avoid splashes.
Fry in Batches – Avoid overcrowding, which lowers the oil temp.
Eat Fresh – These are best enjoyed warm and freshly glazed.
