  • 16 oz loaf of French bread
  • 3 ¾ cups whole milk
  • 1 ½ cup heavy cream
  • 7 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cup sugar
  • Optional: zest of 1/2 an orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the French bread into cubes and place in a baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, whole milk, and heavy cream until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread and gently press down to ensure all pieces are soaked.

  6. Bake for about 120 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
